Programme for Government 2025
Date: 21/01/2025A draft Programme for Government has been agreed by Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael, along with the support of a number of Independent TDs. It is likely that a government will be formed by the parties and TDs to implement the Programme for Government. What is contained in the Programme for Government will have an impact in Ballymun.
We welcome commitments made to support “thriving communities” particularly the pledge to increase funding for the Social Inclusion & Community Activation Programme (SICAP). We also welcome the Programme’s focus on alleviating child poverty through cross-departmental collaboration.
More needs to be done to improve life for people in Ballymun, together with commitments on delivering new social housing, there must be supports for existing social housing residents. There should be a clear commitment to ensuring that all local authority dwellings are brought up to standard or systematically retrofitted to ensure that they are warm and comfortable places to live. The new government should continue the commitment to ensure procurement policy for social housing has strong social clauses, in line with the Green Public Procurement policy. We would call on the new government to honour the previous government’s commitment to hold a referendum on housing.
The Programme’s acknowledgement that a modern courts and legal system is vital to ensure fair access to justice can only be achieved by implementing the forthcoming recommendations of the review of the civil legal aid system.
Ballymun Community Law Centre is committed to ensuring that access to justice is available to the people of Ballymun.
